2007 ASID MN Chapter
First Place Award Winner

The goal

Remodel a kitchen within an existing home for a serious cook. Develop better flow to adjacent office, increase storage and improve the kitchens entertaining potential. Balance traditional and contemporary styling to fit comfortably into this contemporary home while reflecting the clients love of English traditional bespoke kitchens.

Some highlights

The balance of combining painted and walnut cabinetry, quartz and granite counter tops, along with custom designed metal work creates warmth, movement, and emphasis in this spacious kitchen. The custom designed cabinetry has fine detail on base cabinets for a bespoke look while the simple shaker style uppers speak to the clean architecture in the home. Crown detail was added to refer to the original custom milled base throughout the home.

Moving the cook top to perimeter wall and the sink to the island we were able to create a new focal point from the living space. The entry to the office was moved to center on a armoire cabinet which houses wine coolers and displays special pieces from the homeowners collection.

The adjacent space houses a wet bar/morning coffee bar with a bar sink and a caterers refrigerator to the south of the display armoire and to the north is a full home office with file space and housing for the family pet.

Comfortable stools at the island allow friends and family to linger and interact with the cook.
