It all began…
While other girls were having slumber parties in junior high, Lisa invited
her girlfriends over to help her move all the furniture out of her bedroom
and then paint it. She still has sketchbooks as far back as third grade;
detailing rooms in her house she reworked to give them a different style.
One of her favorites…
"We worked with a gentleman who was recently divorced. His ex-wife
made all the decisions for the look of their home, so he never really
knew he had very good taste. But he was an avid art collector, so his
level of taste was actually quite sophisticated. It was fun to take him
from the leftover furniture from his former marriage, to a satisfying
and comfortable environment that reflected who he was as an individual.
It was as if we were helping him create a new identity for this new phase
of his life. I could tell he had a fun time, and it was an affirmation
for him that proved he could do this."
Tell me more…
Q: What kind of interior design
projects get you most excited?
A: I like projects that have a puzzle
or problem to solve somehow – like incorporating existing pieces,
or bringing two households together.
Q: If you weren’t an interior
designer, what else would you do?
A: Psychologist or teacher. I’m
very interested in people. I like getting to know them and helping them
through a process.
Q: What’s your favorite room
in your own home?
A: Without a question, my bedroom. I’ve
worked at creating a sanctuary there. And it’s the only room in
the house with no toys in it.
Q: What’s the best compliment
you’ve ever been given from a client?
A: A client was asked by a friend if
he had a list of interior designers he’d recommend. He told us,
"You guys aren’t ON the list. You ARE the list."
