Architect: Mark A Kawell

The goal

Design the interior of a newly constructed home, including fixtures, finishes and furnishings. Create a serene environment consistent with the architecture’s Japanese sensibility.

Some highlights

Finish materials are reminiscent of the water, rock and clouds found in traditional Japanese gardens and landscape paintings.

The color scheme arose from the client’s existing rugs and Japanese woodcuts.

The powder room is wheelchair accessible, with open space under the sink and a roll-in shower floor that has no threshold.

Furniture detailing draws on the stepped motifs and screening devices from the architecture.
