This project featured on HGTV's Before and After.
The goal
Select finishes and fixtures for a former gas station converted to a single-family
home. Consulted on interior detailing and exterior colors and
finishes. Embrace the former life of the building while giving birth to
the warmth of a residential space.
Some highlights
Glass block windows so popular in mid-20th century commercial buildings
are brought back in the thick, textured glass tiles on the kitchen backsplash
and the glass frame of the powder room mirror. Using steel and cable for
ladders and railings in loft bedroom spaces further demonstrates an elegant
use of industrial materials, as do exposed plumbing traps and ventilation
ducts.
In the main living area, warm gray French limestone
tile resurrects the color of the original concrete. Mahogany cabinets
and millwork add warmth and visual texture for a residential feeling.
Neon-bright accents recall the space’s commercial
roots, and build on the energy that curved architectural accents add to
a predominantly minimalist space.
